Bill Carrothers
Bill Carrothers (b. 1964 Minneapolis, Minnesota) has been playing piano since he was five. When he first appeared on the New York jazz scene in 1988 Carrothers was celebrated as a major new discovery, playing with such greats as Gary Peacock and Bill Stewart. The foundation for Carrothers’ career had been laid, so, no friend of the big city, he left NYC in 1993, eventually moving to the environs of Lake Michigan. Carrothers has toured across the globe, playing at such prestigious venues as the Monterey and Montreal jazz festivals. He has received a variety of major awards, including the French »Diapason d’Or«, and has worked with such jazz greats as Lee Konitz, Ari Hoenig, Dewey Redman, and Tim Hagans. Down Beat called him »a probing, intelligent player with a beautiful touch and a wide stylistic range«, and All About Jazz says of his Pirouet CD A Night at the Village Vanguard, »…Carrothers turns in a definitive trio set at the definitive jazz club.«
