Robin Verheyen
Saxophonist/composer Robin Verheyen (b. 1983 in Turnhout, Belgium) was already playing at the age of 18 in renowned American composer Maria Schneider’s big band; at 22 he moved to Paris, and then to New York when he was 23. Verheyen enrolled at NYC’s Manhattan School of Music where he studied with Dave Liebman, i.a., before finishing his studies at the Amsterdam University of the Arts. He has received various awards for his musicianship and composition, including the prestigious Django d’Or. Verheyen has worked with such major musicians as Marc Copland, Gary Peacock, Drew Gress, Pablo Held, Branford Marsalis, Ravi Coltrane, and Toots Thielemans, and has been a member of Saxkartel and the Pascal Niggenkemper Trio.
