The label which has been found in 2003 in Munich by Seizer—an internationally well-known saxophonist himself—and Ralph Bürklin who acts as its commercial directo—contrasted with the masses from the get-go with its passion for detail. This passion shows also in carefully designed record covers which usually involve abstract pictures. The first records published on Pirouet where works of established artists from Munich like Walter Lang, Peter O’Mara and Jason Seizer himself.

Meanwhile the independent label has featured records of numerous musicians from Europe and the US as well. Pirouet counts as one of the three biggest jazz labels in Europe.
